School lunch program fees
10/25/2010 at 9:44 AM
Confused, is what I am. I have been paying lunch program fees for many years now, so far I have paid $2675.00 for my children to eat lunch at school, the lunch I already pay for. I still have $1400.00 more to go before we don't need it. I live 13 blocks from the school, and can't pick my child up, so that's the equivalent of my child walking from 1st to 26th st and having time to eat in 1 hour. If I lived only 3 BLOCKS, further, we would qualify for bussing, and then our lunch program would be free. Does this seem right? It's only 3 more blocks. I pay taxes just like the people 3 blocks away, why should I pay more? So not only do those children get the bus, but they don't have to pay the lunch fees....Huh? It's just not possible to pick them up. I understand they need to pay someone to watch the kids, but shouldn't that be covered like it is with bussing kids? I already provide the lunch I send, they only get 20 minutes to eat, then are sent outside. It just doesn't sit well with me, or feel right. Maybe this is something that should be brought up with the trustees? What do you think?
