Has anyone else noticed a military plane flying over the south end of Brandon for the last hour or so? Wondering what this is all about.

Apparently a rare Pokemon has been spotted.  
 
But really- probably training/exercises.

looks like an alpha jet, not sure which government or owner

not Shilo (no aircraft). Husband just got home from work (Shilo), thinking Minot (has permission), or Portage.

If I recall correctly, there was a picture in the Sun a few days ago. It's a Canadian Forces jet with an enhanced radar package doing training exercises.

This image is different than the radar plane from a couple of days ago.

They come out very often for training of troops at CFB Shilo.

I found a picture of the Alpha Jet on YouTube comparable to Adam's picture - see photo. Couln''t find any info about these aircraft being posted to a local air base. Portage seems logical but no confirmation.

i notice these planes do manouvers over the city. it's especially great when they buzz the water tower in the east end. fun to watch and fills me full of pride for my country too.

I am not 100% convinced that the picture Adam took is an Alpha Jet. It could be but just not convinced. The large white missile under the right wing is a Harpoon missile used for anti-shipping. As far as I know, there are no oceans within flying range of this jet. And are those red stars on the wings!! That would make this a Russian fighter.  
No panic yet. Russian military doesn't have Harpoon missiles, that's American. I'd say Canadian military is testing or practicing with a new anti aircraft system for deployment overseas. The Harpoon has it's own radar system so gunners in Shilo are probable checking out the radar profile of the missile.

The photo Adam took is the Alpha Jet that was flying around. And it DOES NOT have Harpoons!!! Those are external fuel tanks on that jet.

I thought the 1st picture attached to this discussion was the picture Adam took. That is definitely a Harpoon missile under the right wing but it appears that picture was the picture taken from the Youtube grab. The picture Adam took is an Alpha Jet and has been used for training many time over Camp Shilo.  
I guess I can put my English to Russian dictionary down. The Russian are definitely NOT coming.

This is the video the screen grab is from. Not a Harpoon but an xocet am39. Both anti-ship missiles.
