Funeral Processions
5/27/2008 at 8:07 PM
Today was the day my Great Uncle of 87 years of age was buried. The ceremony of his life was in mid town, and we proceeded out by rivers from there. It wasn't until I had driven to the top of the hill on 18th st that I realized something. There are rules to be followed by other drivers while a procession is on. This first clicked as a driver pulled over on the other side of the road. I understand it would not be possible for all traffic to stop in mid town, but this driver had plenty of room to stop and pull over. If I'm not mistaken, as motorists we are supposed to pullover as a funeral procession passes by. But did the next 3 drivers forget??? Alas, a Brandon city police vehicle was approaching, they will stop for sure, I thought. Nope, just went on there way, didn't pull over at all. (now if you are thinking they were doing some police business I doubt it much, they didn't speed away and didn't turn on the sirens) I could not believe that!!!!! But everyone in Rivers pulled over, even the man on the road by the Rivers golf course with the travel trailer pulled over. Have most of the people in Brandon forgot??? (I say most because 1 out of 4 pulled over, even the police didn't) Where is the respect?? Where is the obedience to the rules of the road??? What say you?!?!
