A familiar mainstay to Neepawa’s restaurant scene is shutting down, as Brahma’s Grill and Steakhouse has announced that it’ll cease operations on Saturday, June 4.

“It is with heavy hearts and deep regrets that we inform you. This will be our final week of operation,” said owner/operator Dave Brown in a Facebook message. “The struggle through last summer’s construction has finally taken its toll.”

In May 2015, a $9 million construction project on the Yellowhead Highway (PTH 16) created multiple problems for the restaurant, which is located two kilometres east of Neepawa. Those issues included extended periods in which there was limited access to the building due to traffic delays, as well as causing a power outage to the kitchen on a Sunday, normally the restaurant’s busiest customer day.

As for the future of the building and the adjoining land, there has been no comment made as to when the property will be sold and what type of business could eventually fill that space.
