The final countdown is on. Announced way back in fall of 2017 weâre now just one month away from Brandon taking its latest shift in the National spotlight as host of the 2019 Tim Hortons Brier.
We will soon know the field of teams that will make up the draw, including teams playing out for the right to be Manitobaâs representative starting on Wednesday at the Viterra Championship in Virden.
If hotel bookings are any indication, the city will be quite busy entertaining visitors. For an idea a quick check on a popular hotel booking site shows just one Brandon hotel with any available rooms in their system for the final weekend of the event, stating that the city is â85% booked.â
On a personal note, embarrassed to say that even though I grew up in a curling hotbed as a childhood friend to a curler thatâs likely to be playing in the Brier Iâve never in my life been to see a live draw of competitive curling and only this past December touched a curling stone for the first time. The buck stops here as I hope to make it out to at least one to see what all the fuss is about. I have a feeling there are a few more curious folks like myself that will make the event a success.
Tickets, which range from $15 for a single draw to $519 for a full event package, are on sale via https://www.curling.ca/2019brier/tickets/
