Nolan Ritchie would seem a fair bet to become a household name in Brandon in the not too distant future. On the final weekend of the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League schedule the local product and WHL Wheat King prospect currently leads all players in scoring with 39 goals and 93 points.
It’s no surprise that those exploits tonight earned the 16 year-old 3rd round WHL draft choice the honour of Most Valuable Player in the 13 team league:
Though focus is undoubtedly on the upcoming AAA playoffs, you couldn’t blame WHL Wheat King fans for looking forward to what might be to come after the son of former Wheat King sniper Darren Ritchie made quite the impression on his first shift on home ice during a callup earlier this season:
With one day left in the regular season schedule Ritchie and teammates are currently 3rd in league standings after earning point in tonight’s overtime loss against the 1st place Winnipeg Wild on Saturday night.
