The numbers are in: February was the 6th coldest in 129 years

Posted by Adam in Local Weather, 3/5/2019

You knew February was cold. With it now a thing of the past new data released puts into perspective just how frigid it was by historical standards.

According to meteorological firm Weatherlogics, Brandon saw a mean temperature of -22.6 degrees or 9 degrees below normal between February 1 and February 28. That span saw 12 nights where the overnight low dropped below -30 including rock-bottom on the 8th of -39.3. Interestingly Winnipeg, just two hours to the East, was on average almost 3 degrees warmer over that same span.

In terms of precipitation we saw the water equivalent of 24.4mm, not far from double the average 13.5mm that we would see.

Though March has started off in the form of a bit of a lion, there are signs that our luck is about to turn with minus single digit highs forecast all the way into next week including a potential melt-inducing -1 on Monday.
