After a thrilling season that saw the program capture interest from the mainstream like arguably never before, the Bobcats Men’s Volleyball team has finished as runner-up at the U Sports Nationals in Laval, Quebec after coming up just short of their ultimate goal today.
After quarter and semi final victories the Bobcats had won their way into an all Canada West final with British Columbia’s Trinity Western Spartans. Today however would be the Spartans’ day, prevailing in straight sets 25-23, 25-21, 25-19 (box score is available here).
Including today’s match all roads ran through Trinity Western this season, first with January’s statement win by the Bobcats that elevated them to first in the national rankings, then last weekend’s Canada West Conference Championship win by Brandon. As two of the top ranked teams in the country, both qualified for nationals and proved to be the class of the field this weekend leading into today’s final. For TWU, the title marks their third over the past four years and sixth overall.
A big thanks to everyone involved with the Cats’ memorable run this season. I know it probably seems like small consolation right now, but in my opinion this year’s team will go down for really having helped Volleyball work it’s way into the mainstream in Brandon and I don’t think I’m alone in looking forward to seeing what comes next for the program!
