On the strength of a shutout by Brandon’s own Kristen Campbell, the University of Wisconsin Badgers have emerged at the top of the US collegiate hockey world by defeating the Minnesota Golden Gophers 2-0 in the Women’s Hockey national championship game at Hamden, Connecticut on Sunday.
Campbell made 27 saves for the win and her 11th shutout of the season. The shutout was her third in three games at the Division I NCAA Women’s Hockey Tournament, leading to the honour of Most Outstanding Player of the tourney.
Campbell had originally began her college career with the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, then in 2017-18 made the transition to Wisconsin after UND discontinued their women’s hockey program. With the Badgers she would appear in every game over the past two seasons, leading the NCAA in goals against average and shutouts each year... punctuated by this week’s finish which marked the first time in tournament history that a goaltender would not allow a goal.
