A flurry of activity has surrounded Brandon’s brand new baseball team in recent months as preparations are made for their inaugural season.
The latest step for the Wheat City Whiskey Jacks this week has been the hiring of a General Manager and they didn’t have to look far to find one who you will very possibly recognize for having had a presence in Westman for many years.
Ray Walker, who many may have come to know from his years in local radio, has been tasked with the role of GM for the ball club. Walker’s on-air work has led to much experience in sports via the world of sports broadcasting and also brings a background in sales and promotions that will prove valuable to a new team getting off the ground. His responsibilities with the Whiskey Jacks will focus on game day operations, sales and management of the team’s local operations on the business side. As is customary for the Expedition League, the club’s head coach takes on responsibilities relating to player personnel.
The team has made a bevy of announcements so far in 2019 as they unveil players, staff and more info on the in-game experience that they’re looking to build for their 32 home games at Andrews Field. Most recently it was announced that they will hire 25 people at a job fair next weekend at Andrews Field for folks that would like to be part of the game day experience.
The Whiskey Jacks’ regular season begins on May 24 in Minot against the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs, leading up to their May 28 home opener at Andrews Field.
