Roblin product and former Wheat King Jayce Hawryluk has ended the week by getting the call every Westman kid dreams of.
The 2nd round pick of the NHL’s Florida Panthers is on his way to the big club from the American Hockey League’s Springfield (Massachusetts) Thunderbirds.
The leading scorer for the 2016 WHL Champs had gotten off to a somewhat slow start offensively by his standards in his pro career, combining for 62 points over 111 games in his first two seasons. A big step has followed this year, first putting up a five point game and then more recently racking up 13 points over his past eight games to show the Panthers he's ready for the next step.
If Florida fan site The Rat Trick is to be taken literally, Hawryluk could make his NHL debut as early as tomorrow when the Panthers host the Toronto Maple Leafs in a game that would be no stranger to television:
The Wheat Kings wasted no time in wishing #8 their best along with former teammate John Quenneville, who’s been recalled by the New Jersey Devils:
We feel it best to mark the occasion with a throwback to Jayce at his best in the black and gold with a hope that in time the folks of South Florida see a little of the same!
