After the Wheat Kings’ home opener, the annual Teddy Bear (and Toque) toss is close to the top of the list as far as must-see games on the WHL schedule.
Tonight fans like these folks came to the rink with bears-a-plenty (and a few toques and pairs of mitts to boot), ready to toss them over the glass and onto the ice when the home team scores its first goal:
The wait wasn’t too long as about halfway through the first period Brandon-born Connor Gutenberg scored close to as nice of a teddy bear goal as you’ll see, beating Saskatoon goalie Nolan Maier on a shorthanded breakaway for the game’s first goal and sending the bears raining down onto the ice:
The game itself would see ten more goals, with the Wheat Kings pulling out a thrilling 6-5 overtime win.
Three cheers for everyone involved for their contributions to the Brandon and Westman Christmas Cheer Registry and having a little fun in the process!
