If the NHL hasn’t already found out what local hockey fans already know, they’re most definitely about to. Kelly McCrimmon has been promoted to General Manager of the Vegas Golden Knights effective September 1.
McCrimmon has been with the Knights since 2016 in the role of Assistant General Manager. Prior to that the 58-year old native of Plenty, Saskatchewan had of course been with the Wheat Kings in every role you could imagine beginning in 1988.
At the same time current Knights’ General Manager George McPhee will retain the role of President of Hockey Operations.
During their first two seasons the Golden Knights have defied the odds in becoming one of the league’s top teams, netting a 94-56-9-5 record.
McCrimmon had been rumoured to be of interest to other teams in the league that may have been in the market for a General Manager. He remains Owner and Governor of the Wheat Kings.
