The calendar just officially turned to winter but it’s never too soon to start thinking summer. This year there’ll be one more fun option for folks looking for ways to enjoy our great Westman summers outdoors. As announced in October Brandon is set to have a baseball club in the Expedition League, which bills itself as a collegiate league “Where tomorrow’s stars play... today.”
The new team was in the news today for having announced the top choice in its “Guess the team name” contest and the winner is....

The Wheat City Whiskey Jacks
The club shared the news in social media posts a little earlier this afternoon along with the winning person in the contest:
The Whiskey Jacks will be the first Canadian franchise in a league that includes teams in USA states North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and Wyoming. Last year was the first for the league, which saw its regular season schedule run from late May to mid-August.
I understand the full schedule is being finalized, though opening day league-wide will be May 24. Home games will be played out of Andrews Field. To give an idea, last season saw each team play 32 home games.
