A week after announcing the filling of their vacant General Manager position, the Brandon Wheat Kings have unveiled that a veteran coach and familiar face to local hockey fans will head the on-ice product from behind the bench.
Dave Lowry is the clubâs head coach, new General Manager Darren Ritchie announced today. Lowry most recently served as assistant coach with the Los Angeles Kings and prior to that coached the WHLâs Victoria Royals for five years. The NHL veteran of 1084 games also coached the Calgary Hitmen to a 2009 Eastern Conference championship victory over the Wheat Kings.
Lowry succeeds David Anning in the role after it was announced in June that Anningâs contract would not be renewed.
With Lowry and Ritchie in place the Wheat Kings are now able to focus on preparations for the upcoming season, with training camp beginning later next month in the lead up to September 20thâs home opener against the Winnipeg Ice.
