Local parody helps Bomber fans turn page to Saturday’s Banjo Bowl

The Labour Day Classic has come and gone and with Manitoba’s Blue Bombers having come up on the losing end of a 19-17 score after a walk-off field goal Saskatchewan Roughrider win, a Westman-based band is helping give fans reason to re-focus spirits on this coming weekend’s rematch. 

In “All my friends cheer for the Roughriders,” Oak Lake’s Prairie Joe parodies a familiar tune through the eyes of the prairies’ football rivalry: 

With the win the Riders (7-3) pulled to within a hair of the Bombers (8-3) at the top of the West Division standings with the two teams scheduled for a rematch in Saturday afternoon’s Banjo Bowl in Winnipeg.

Brandon is historically divided on Bomber/Rider lines thanks in large part to its proximity to the Manitoba/Saskatchewan border and its notable population of Sask ex-pats. 

This isn’t the first foray into parodies for Prairie Joe, whose “Froze my brain up in Canada” became an anthem of sort for a 2018 January Manitoba cold snap. It was followed up this past winter with “I Don’t Want to Go Outside” to the tune of another well-known song.
