With snow falling on Wednesday and plenty more on the way in the months ahead, a City of Brandon program that gives residents an opportunity to play a part in helping keep the city accessible during the winter time is set to return for the 2019/2020 snowy season and is now seeking volunteers.
According to a press release sent out by the city on Wednesday morning, a list of residences requesting assistance is shared with volunteers monthly who would help out on their initiative after snowfalls. Clearing would be done on city sidewalks adjacent to properties and not on private property.
No money changes hands with the program, be it as a resident needing a hand or a volunteer offering one. Those who have registered can opt out at any time. For folks that had participated last year, it would be necessary to re-register again this year.
According to a spokesperson for the program, a little more than 20 people volunteered last winter. There is a hope to increase both that number and the number of properties seeking assistance this year. To register to help out or to request assistance itâs asked that folks email snowangels@brandon.ca or phone 204.729.2186.
