This is an in-office position, with the potential for periodic remote work

What you?ll do: The Human Resources Advisor delivers comprehensive support across all functional areas of HR, including but not limited to employee relations, talent acquisition, talent management, compensation and benefits, workforce planning, onboarding, learning and organizational development.

This role provides exceptional service and partnership to employees and leaders at all levels from front?line team members to the Executive Leadership Team, strengthening HR capability across Heritage Co?op and contributing to a positive, consistent, and high?quality employee experience.

Key Job Responsibilities include:

 

People Focus Area ?Employee experience, engagement, talent development, and day-to-day HR support

  • Support talent acquisition activities, including job profile creation, job evaluations, posting and sourcing strategies, pre?screening, interviewing, reference/background checks, and coordinating onboarding and orientation.
  • Provide frontline support to employees and leaders on HR policies, benefits, procedures, and general inquiries.
  • Assist with employee engagement, wellness, and recognition initiatives that strengthen culture and team connection.
  • Coordinate and support training workshops, learning programs, and development initiatives across the organization.
  • Support employee relations processes by preparing documentation, tracking follow?up actions, and maintaining confidential records.

Market Focus Area - Talent competitiveness, employer brand, and alignment with labour?market trends

  • Maintain market awareness of labour and compensation trends and HR best practices to support talent attraction and organizational decision-making.
  • Support employer branding initiatives through participation in career fairs, student outreach, Co-op brand promotions, and community-facing events.
  • Help advance respectful workplace initiatives and diversity, equity, and inclusion practices that strengthen talent attraction and retention.
  • Track external HR trends, emerging legislation, and regulatory changes, escalating potential impacts to HR leadership.

Operations Focus Area - Core HR processes, HRIS optimization, compliance, and continuous improvement

  • Support the creation, revision, and implementation of HR policies, procedures, templates, and toolkits.
  • Conduct HR audits, documentation reviews, and data validation activities to ensure accuracy, compliance, and strong governance.
  • Provide support for HRIS transactions, reporting, troubleshooting, and employee training to improve system adoption and efficiency.
  • Assist operating departments throughout talent and performance management cycles, including goal?setting, reviews, and development planning.
  • Analyze HR metrics and dashboards, identify trends, and provide insights and recommendations to HR leadership.
  • Contribute to HR projects such as system enhancements, workflow improvements, policy redevelopment, or organizational change initiatives.

Financial & Long-term Sustainability Focus Area - Cost?effective HR programming, workforce planning, and operational sustainability

  • Provide input into staffing plans, organizational structures, and long?term workforce needs.
  • Support budgeting processes related to recruitment, training, compensation, and HR programs.
  • Identify cost?saving or efficiency opportunities through improved processes, better systems use, and stronger retention strategies.
  • Support workforce and succession planning, leadership development, and long?term talent pipeline initiatives to ensure organizational continuity.

Corporate Social Responsibility Focus Area - Ethical leadership, community engagement, and socially responsible HR practices

  • Coordinate or participate in community partnerships, volunteer activities, educational outreach, and other Co?op?aligned initiatives.
  • Ensure HR practices reflect the organization?s values and uphold ethical, responsible, and respectful decision?making.
  • Promote environmental mindfulness, sustainability practices, and community engagement within HR programs and departmental activities

Who you are:

Education

?        Diploma or degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Labour Relations, or a related field.

Related Experience & Skills

?        Minimum 5+ years of progressive HR experience supporting multiple HR functions.

?        Experience advising leaders on HR policies, performance management, employee relations, and/or recruitment.

?        Experience conducting or supporting workplace investigations

?        Previous experience using HRIS platforms; familiarity with Oracle applications is an asset.

?        Solid understanding of employment legislation, privacy requirements, and regulatory compliance.

?        Knowledge of core HR processes, including:

  • Talent acquisition, job evaluation, and workforce planning.
  • Talent and performance management, coaching, and employee development.

?        Understanding of respectful workplace practices, diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.

?        Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and HR information systems.

?        Ability to analyze and interpret HR metrics, trends, and workforce data.

?        Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor messaging to different audiences.

?        Demonstrated ability to build and maintain trusting relationships across all levels of the organization.

?        Skilled in coaching leaders and employees with tact, professionalism, and sound judgment.

?        Effective conflict?resolution, problem?solving, and negotiation abilities

?        Class 5 driver?s license
