Position: Construction Estimator
About the Role
Keller Developments is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Construction Estimator to join our team. This role is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for residential, commercial, and multi-residential construction projects.
The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, suppliers, subcontractors, and senior leadership to support pre-construction planning and tendering. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple estimates in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements
- Technical training in construction, engineering technology, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- Minimum 3-5 years of estimating experience in the construction industry is preferred.
- Experience estimating projects ranging from mid-sized to large-scale builds is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and building systems.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating within a team environment.
- Adaptable and capable of adjusting to changing priorities in a deadline-driven setting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).
- Experience with estimating software and digital take-off tools.
- Familiarity with tendering platforms (e.g., MERX) is an asset.
- Experience with Buildertrend, or similar systems is considered an asset.
- A valid Class 5 driver?s licence.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform detailed material quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications.
- Prepare accurate and comprehensive cost estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor pricing, overhead, and general expenses.
- Review drawings, specifications, and bid documents to determine project scope and requirements.
- Assist in the preparation and submission of tender packages.
- Solicit and analyze pricing from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive and complete bids.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, consultants, and internal teams.
- Identify potential cost risks and provide value-engineering recommendations where appropriate.
- Maintain organized estimating files and documentation for future reference and audit purposes.
- Support post-bid reviews and assist with project handoff to Project Management teams.
- Consult with engineers, architects, owners, and contractors regarding scope changes and estimate revisions as required.
- Participate in continuous improvement of estimating processes and cost databases.
