Student Support Worker

Post-Secondary Education / Employment & Training Department

Part-Time (21 Hours per Week)

Location: Sioux Valley, Manitoba

Position Summary

The Student Support Worker will support students and play a key role in implementing educational programs and services. Responsibilities may include assisting with academic program activities, reinforcing social and behavioural plans, and providing personal care support as needed. The successful candidate will help foster student development, independence, and success in a supportive learning environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain professional boundaries while building positive relationships with students, colleagues, visitors, and community members.
  • Ensure the learning needs of students are met.
  • Assist students in ways that promote personal development and independence.
  • Work collaboratively with support services and professionals to ensure students receive effective educational support.
  • Attend and contribute to review meetings and staff meetings as required.
  • Conduct dynamic risk assessments by identifying hazards, evaluating risks, determining precautions, and documenting findings.
  • Work closely with at-risk students to develop strategies that enhance self-esteem and academic success.
  • Consult with teaching and support staff to develop appropriate student support strategies.
  • Maintain written records and provide regular reports to the Post-Secondary/Employment & Training Program Manager.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 Diploma, Mature Grade 12 High School Diploma, or G.E.D.
  • Post-secondary training is considered an asset.
  • Counselling experience is required.
  • Strong work ethic and reliable attendance record.
  • Ability to respond promptly to calls and texts; availability after hours is considered an asset.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Knowledge of the culture, traditions, attitudes, and socio-economic conditions of First Nation communities.
  • Proficiency with computers, presentations, and strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively to meet students' social and behavioural needs.
  • Strong knowledge of community and area resources.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Successful completion of a current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, Prior Contact Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check, or proof of submission of all required checks.
