Are rules. September till June is when those rules are in effect so I doubt you will win this challenge. Never hurts to fight the ticket if you have an argument but you will have to go to court center to plead not guilty and then you will have to appear in court again to argue your ticket.  
 
Photo enforced tickets are pretty cut and dry but your only way of getting out of it is going to court.

Are you saying then you were driving without un due do care and attention ?  
Good luck telling a judge that you zoned out looking straight ahead driving a motor vehicle.

My mother got one a few years ago in Winnipeg my brother was driving here car you could see her head in the back seat, there was no way out of the ticket, but at that time they didn't go against your licence you just paid the fine. don't know if that's still the case call the licence department at auto pac they will know.

Sounds like you’re trying to get off on a technicality. If it were outside of Xmas break you would be paying the ticket. You didn’t intentionally drive 50 thinking it was OK because school was out, you admitted to doing it because you didn’t realize where you were.

In Saskatchewan the school zone speeds are in effect all year, even during summer vacation. At least that is the case in Regina!

If you got a photo radar ticket it shouldn't effect your driver's license.

Being in a different city and not knowing where all the schools are. Certainly the signs are there and visible, but if you are looking for a house number or going somewhere where you have never been, you just really have to be alert and watch.  
 
But, following other traffic would also help, as long as they were following the signs.  
 
I am an alert driver and always watch what is happening around me, but I would never be surprised if I missed a sign in a different city and got a ticket. Especially if it was a no school day.  
 
I am pretty sure, I would not waste my time fighting it though. All the school signs are clearly visible.

The ticket is cut and dry, I wouldn’t waste your time going to Winnipeg to fight it. Like Trevor said though, a photo radar ticket does not affect your license, as they can’t prove who was driving. The registered owner pays the fine, that’s it.

You are not an idiot as implied by another poster. In your position I would go to the provincial court building in town and plead my case. This ticket does not affect your driving record in any way so no worries about that. In your case I would ask for a reduction as there are at least two reasons for this. 1. During the holidays it's difficult at times to keep track of what day of the week it is exactly as they so it's easy to lose track of "is this a Sunday or Monday thing". 2. The photo was snapped 7 minutes before 5pm. Maybe your car clock was a bit fast and you actually thought it was in fact past 5pm. Two reasons that a court officer will consider in reducing the amount. I would own up to the infraction, but plead one of the two or both. I don't know how fast you were clocked at, but if it's 50km or slower you probably stand a vety good chance of a reduction as the officers are quite reasonable. Good luck!

I seen all the stats from the news in Winnipeg, but so one will say what speed they were going? Just trying to get all the facts.

What's your real excuse for speeding in a school zone ? Seeing as you where driving with due care and attention. Being aware of your surroundings, fallowing the traffic laws and being that perfect driver.  
I was not being rude, your the one who is winging about being caught speeding in a school zone. Your the one who has care and control of your vehicle and you deliberately chose to ignore the posted speed signage .

Your pretty much stuck with paying the fine. Arguing I didn't notice will get you nowhere.  
 
On the upside, since it was a photo radar, and not a in person ticket, there is no affect on your license. The fine is higher than if you were given a ticket in person, but since they have no way of knowing if it was you driving or not, they do not give you any demerits.

While you might be complaining that this was just before 5pm (1700hrs), in Winnipeg the school zone time are 07:30 to 17:30, where in Brandon it is 08:00 to 17:00. So the 30km speed limit was in effect for another 30+ minutes when you were caught.

I got nailed in Calgary a few years ago. Sunday morning doing 50kmh exactly going on a street, following my gps. Was a 30 zone because was considered a Park zone. I called them on this and asked them if there was signs posted, Lady said there are no signs posted as this was a City wide speed thing.  
So here i was , a tourist not knowing the city and still got nailed.  
This was before the speed reduction came to Brandon..

This isn't the first time that motorists feel that a certain ticket looks like a cash grab, I believe In the safety of our children but at times it makes you wonder, especially if a person is not familiar with an area, or the schools in that area.  
Here's a suggestion, if we are worried about the kids in a school zone, and maybe the chance of someone not seeing the sign, why not do like at every set of traffic lights, of course things cost money but a flashing yellow light on top of the school sign, set to operate when speed is supposed to be reduced would maybe make things better. We can all see traffic lights but there is still a yellow warning light, why not at school zones. If you ignore a sign and a yellow warning light then you really do deserve a ticket, also might remove the idea that certain areas are just a cash grab.

Seven minutes before five makes no difference in Winnipeg as they have a different set of times. If I remember correctly it's till 5:30pm.

A lot of un sympathetic posters here, but what would you expect, this is eBrandon, lol! You have nothing to lose in pleading your case at the courthouse here in Brandon no matter what posters may say here. I urge you to go and you'll probably be pleased with the outcome as I do believe that it will be time well spent. BTW Don, good suggestion and post, but probably won't be mplemented as it would do serious damage to a Winnipeg "cash cow".

Yup, I'm pretty sure that this is likely happening in more areas than just Winnipeg. Maybe Brandon can get itself recognized on the Canadian map by implementing a policy like I suggested, but highly doubt it, one of those situations where the reason against it would be that the cost outweighs benefits, and it appears that the benefits are pretty good as far as the city of Winnipeg is concerned.

Don... this solution has been presented to the City of Winnipeg and rejected. The company "Mr. Electric" in the city offered to provide solar powered and times flashing lights for ALL school zones in the city at ZERO cost to the city and all maintenance would be covered for free as well. One would think that this would be ideal if the safety of the children was the primary concern. However, the city rejected the offer, possibly because it would drastically cut down on the photo radar revenue that is generated. Even the Winnipeg Police Service has said publicly that they hope for more speeders so that their budgets don't have to be cut. Photo radar is nothing more than a cash grab in Winnipeg and has nothing to do with safety.

Thanks for the link, interesting read, never really looked at law enforcement as being a revenue generating source to make the system viable. Sort of a sad situation if taxes alone can not maintain essential services. The comment by the police service should be looked at as troublesome.
