Looking on today's news on cbc.ca and yahoo.ca GG Julie Payette is accused of harassing and bullying at Rideau Hall with 4 employees quitting,1 more quitting this week and 2 on leave of absence due to stress.They claim even Payette's secretary and long time friend Assunta Di Lorenzo of doing the same.Employees can complain to the HR department but complaints go to Di Lorenzo who reports to the GG.  
Have you ever been harrassed or bullied in your workplace?What did you do?  
Far to often people in these management type positions get away with the claims.

A toxic work environment can make a great job seem terrible very quickly. It is unfortunate when management rises to the level of abuse of power and resorts to bullying. This issue is amplified, these days, when the definition of bullying and abuse of power is also being rewritten.  
 
What was considered abusive 20-30 years ago is now basically criminal and what was considered stern but fair is now considered abusive. There is a thin line between firm and abusive and that line is at an increasingly diverse place depending who you talk to.  
 
My hope is that the boss/employee relationship, in all places can be worked out to everyone's advantage. Unfortunately that will never happen. Sometimes these rifts are simply personality conflicts that aren't abusive and sometimes they rise to the level of abuse.

It would be smart for employers to record the meetings they have with the employees. When dealing with he said she said situations it is best recorded as nothing is missed. Let them know the meeting is recorded.  
In today's society with everyone being offended or heaven forbid someone's feelings were hurt it is easier to deal with stuff from another view. So many people now listen to the tone vs the message said. Not saying bad things happen, many times too things are blown out of proportion and some people can sure lay on the sympathy and poor me and try to get what they want.

of power should be gracious and kind, not mean towards staff.

Yes, it happens at work. Bullies get away with murder because they’re besties with the boss. Meetings to talk it out don’t do anything except make the bully even worse. We’re supposed to teach our kids how not to act yet don’t take our own advice. Makes one dread to go to work

Now enough people have spoken to get an impartial probe into this matter.This is the only way to remedy the situation.It has been hopeless going to HR to make complaint(s) as it is either gets swept to the way side or they turn the tables on the employee which only makes the situation worse.Resulting in more power to the abusive bully.Hopefully a "cleansing" of Rideau Hall will result of this.It will set a precedence in all parts of the country including right here in Brandon.

was harassed at the work place but the people above are so connected that it could only be your fault. I was threatened by HR due to a harassment claim, and told to drop it if I knew what was good for me. I realized quickly how corrupt a big government organization can be and what does go on at the top. And, if you are smart enough to know what does go on, you will be gone. I, of course, do not work there anymore but wasn't fired.
