Hoping somebody can maybe give me some information. I have been receiving the Canada Child Tax Benefit for my son since last year, this year was the first time my fiance and I filed our income tax together as common law. Because of filing as common law we ended up owing money back for the child tax payment. We got the notice at the end of May, paid the payment in full through the bank on May 25th. I was told further payments would resume after this sum was paid in full. But did not recieve my child tax payment today. The number to call for child tax is constantly busy, so just wondering if maybe somebody had been in the same situation and could tell me how long it took for their payments to resume. Thanks in advance

did you also owe for gst? this happened to me awhile back I owed for child tax and gst from when my partner and I claimed common-law. do you have a cra account?

Yup I also owed back for GST, paid that in full on May 6th. Yes I did have the cra account, but it just keeps saying the information i put in doesn't match an account, so i'm clearly spacing on my password or something. I also called the toll free number and there is an option to type in your SIN number, birthdate, and amount of income on last years tax return, and i typed that all in, and it just says the information can't be processed at this time. Would be a heck of alot easier if i could just get through to a person. That's why i was just throwing it out there to see if anybody had a similar situation

This had happened to me also and the month of May is paid in June so I am pretty sure your CT will catch up in July.

Your payment just wasn't processed in time to be eligible for June's payment.

Hoping that's the reasoning to, just that it wasn't processed in time. Would that mean i will get the "back pay" for June, as i had the payment paid in full in May?

Oh ya! July will have May and June together!!

when you claim common law the government calculates gst and child tax benefit on a couples combined income. So potentially you could loose your benefits....at the very least they will more than likely decrease.

Yes i am aware the benefit decreases. With the letter saying we owed it also stated the new calculation of the benefit.

Hopefully July will bring lots of good news! lol

Payment coming in July is your UCC. Previously 100$/m for kids under 6. Now 160$ for kids under 6 & 60$ for those over.  
 
A note for everyone re CTB & common law status. If you go from single to common law car wants to know the month that happened & will change (reduce) your benefit from that month. When it goes the other way, common law to single (benefit increase) the change will happen at the end of the tax year unless you notify them in writing the dates your benefit change should happen...gotta love the gov.

Ya it was my fault for not knowing exactly how child tax and all that stuff worked. When i applied for child tax I applied as common law, and had put down all of my fiances information as well. So i had just assumed it would go through that way, but they take your previous tax return, in which i was listed as single. So makes sense i would owe back, and now i know

You mean, "Get ready for the election time bribe payments from the conservatives". This is so transparent. Does that extra money pay for daycare? What? You don't know because you can't find any openings?  
 
Sorry for the OT rant but the blatant vote buying using my taxes is really pi$$ing me off...
