    Hey folks... I have a friend who is selling her home. it happens to be 121 years old and beautifully well kept. inside and out!!  
    Can she not register her home under the heritage protection or something like that? Who does she contact for someone to look at it? Im hoping she gets this looked after before someone buys it.

    If she is selling the house,it would be preferable to leave the choice to the new owners.

    Age won't determine if a house has heritage status. The history of the home is what's important. Did a community founder live in the home? My suggestion is to contact the City of Brandon as they have a heritage department who will be able to determine if the house is of a historical significance.

    likely requires more than just being 121 years old. What historical significance does the home have, famous/important person, historic event, unique architecture?

    I wouldn't buy a house with a heritage designation. The fact that I've lived in an old house and won't again aside, having that heritage tag on it limits what the new owners can do with/to it. Particularly to the exterior.

    for getting heritage protection is very specific. It has to meet a long list for it to be considered. It''s owner history, significance to community, architecture, are just some of the criteria. Not just any 100+ year old building meets those specs.

    It looks to be a fairly involved process and not something that happens over night.
