We are thinking about getting rid of our Shaw direct as we don’t use it very much and it seems silly to keep paying it! Just wondering if anyone has any opinions on any type of android box or what would be the best to still watch tv shows after they air,Netflix and stuff like that

We haven't had cable for years. We get Netflix using a PS4. Also on our phones we get Crave. Not able to get Crave using the PS4 which is too bad. My daughter uses an Apple Box and loves it.

Have not had cable in about 3 years. We use Netflix as well. I decided that I was paying 180.00 for cable and internet roughly a month. So I bought an 80.00 android box and upped my internet to a faster speed. I now pay 100 a month for that (I was paying 50.00/mth for the last year, promo ended). But with that my android box usually runs flawlessly and if its having a bad day there is Netflix as a backup.  
 
If you do get an android box get it through amazon. There are people selling them here and in town but doubling the prices. They are selling the cheap 40.00 models for 120.00 sometimes. A friend of mine had the cheap 40.00 version and it didn't work that great. Its better to get a good one that will work most if not all the time, through amazon you can do this for around 100.00 or less.

If I get an android box does this have apps to watch shows that air on cable tv? Or is that something you would have to pay for as an app on the android box?

Most of these boxes will come without any apps installed. There is a ton of info on the web giving info on how to install different apps and which are the good ones.

We haven’t had cable in over a year, it was a waste of money. We watch all the popular shows free online, the next day. Global, city tv, CTV all have free apps. We watch everything online.  
 
What shows are a must see? There hasn’t been a show yet that we follow that we can’t watch. Anyone still paying for regular cable is getting ripped off.

The android box and consider replacing your TV set with a smart tv with Netflix, YouTube and other apps i:ncluded. Then get a HDMI cord (20ft) and plug into your lap top or computer.

I cut the cable cord 15 years ago and will never have a cable bill again. Netflix is only 8.99 mo for all their shows/movies.

No cable for years now. Netflix and Amazon prime video cover tv shows and movies. Can pay directly for sports packages if so inclined. Keeps the bill pretty low. Netflix $10. Prime video ($6.67/month) pays for itself when looking at the other saving you get through amazon. Then $30 for Westman internet at the moment. Will switch back to MTS once the internet price jumps up in 2 months. Under $50 a month is a lot nicer than the $150+ they charge for a lot of channels with nothing on them. Plus, no commercials!

You can get a box called roku, you can buy them at staples.  
We have it, you can add Netflix, crackle (movie channel), you can add other channels too. My husband has a hockey channel on there and plex. Plex you have to install on your computer, but you can copy your movies on your computer and add them to plex. Also through plex you can get prime wire.

What do you mean about sports packages you can buy...through where? My husband is a soccer junkie and we get tired of digging through the Internet for streams that will actually work.

I was referring to the big 4 sports (NHL, NBA, NFL & MLB). Looks like SportsnetNow offers a streaming package for $25/month which i:ncludes the EPL.

Who knows how to fix a matricom box

The only reason I still have satellite is sports. If anyone knows a way to watch out of market games online I would be so happy to hear about it. As a fan of a non-Jets team I currently add nhl centre ice package to get the blacked out games. So if there is another way I want to know

which team do you follow?

You can watch any hockey game live via your computer then HDMI cable the signal to your tv if your cell phone is with Rogers

Reddit has some great sports streams and if you have chromecast hooked up to your tv you can stream from your computer to tv. Or have your computer hooked up to the tv via HDMI I also second having a Rogers phone and watching out of market hockey. It’s fantastic !
