Just a heads up to all out there. We have now received this phone call 5 times this week. Twice this morning before 8am...grrrr.....on a Saturday!!.?  
 
It is an automated message telling you that it's the Canada Revenue Agency and you or your lawyer needs to call them immediately because you are going to be charged for fraud. Then they give u a number to call 204. 272-0355 when u call them they don't ask your name or anything....but then ask u to wait and then they ask if they are speaking to_ a mrs blah blah blah....( which any phone number reverse lookup can do)_. I asked them to give me my first name etc as my number is only listed by my last name and he he couldnt..  
Then he still insists for more info about you.  
When I started questioning him a bit more he just kept saying WE ARE THE CANADA REVENUE AGENCY MAM.....and then finally he abruptly hung up the phone .  
 
Please if you have family that may fall for this make them aware. I would hate to see some unsuspecting person get caught up with this.

I'm not an expert on how to stop scammers but I'd say it's not a good idea even to talk with them. Once you hear the first 2-3 seconds of the automated call just hang up. If you stay on and actually speak with someone, then you phone number gets put on the sucker list, meaning the number (your number)is found to be a live residential number and you will get calls again, hence the 5 calls. Don't speak to them, don't stay on the line, and above all DON'T CALL THE PHONE NUMBER THEY TELL YOU TO CALL. If you hang up quickly the computer program they use to call numbers just move on the next one.

Message says my CRA account is in arrears and I need to send $500 immediately and need to call some number and they will give me an address so I can send the money today - If I don't do this today then legal action will be taken against me - I never call the number as I know it's a scam - the automated call is "threatening " - you MUST do this today or face severe legal consequences. We also get (almost every 2nd day) the call that says "find out how to lower the interest rate on your credit card" - just annoying crap

Our home phone used to get tons of those calls. Cut the cord, just use cell phones. Virtually illuminated those calls.

There are situations where CRA will call you if you are behind in your taxes but never to collect over the phone. IF you are behind on your taxes they will tell you to pay at your bank or pay with online banking. But never collecting over the phone.

Last May a representative from CRA did call me, seeking clarification about one part of my return. She asked some questions to verify that she was talking to me and I asked some question to verify that I was talking to CRA.  
 
I would not want your assertion to lead to people refusing to resolve a simple situation over the phone. Mine took less than 5 minutes.

They are hassling my mother as well, calling multiple times a day. Taking advantage of old people and scaring them. It’s horrible
