There is a private members bill that proposes to abolish time change in Manitoba.  
 
Thoughts?

The only way I would vote in favor of this is if we change to daylight savings time and then stay on that.  
 
I like having daylight until 11 PM in the summer.  
 
Anyone doesn't like the time changes.. move to Saskatchewan.

Maybe you can move to Ontario if the majority of Manitobans support not changing the clock twice a year.

Spring ahead, and leave it that way. Would rather have more daylight at the end of the day.

So in the summer time you would like it to be day light at 4 am and dark at 730 pm. So much for kids sports in the summer time and for doing yard work in the evening

The sponsor of this bill is Emerson MLA Cliff Graydon, who has been in the news lately.

Like others have said, if the new normal was DST year round I have no issue with it.  
 
No interest whatsoever in having standard time year round.

As a previous resident of SK it really doesn’t matter which time they stick to lmao!! The sun comes up and goes down regardless of what the clock says. We get more daylight in summer so it doesn’t matter.  
 
You wouldn’t even notice if time just continued. I hope they get rid of time change

But as Saskatchewan is farther west than us the time does not affect them as much. Much like being in the middle of a time zone between Alberta and us

I lived 10 minutes from the Manitoba border. Trust me it won’t make a difference. Lol.

But how far from the Manitoba / Ontario border?

Currently on the summer solstice in Brandon the sunrise is about 5:30 AM and sunset is about 9:52 PM. Going to standard time that would be sunrise of 4:30 AM and sunset 8:52 PM. I think that is going to cut down on outdoor activities in the summer. We are already on daylight time 7 months of the year so going that way 12 months of the year is more plausible. Now in the winter the sun wouldn't rise until after 9 in the morning but at least it wouldn't set until closer to 6.

In truth it is as mcws2004 just posted. It makes an extra hour of daylight in the evening.  
 
Yes total daylight hours are the same but for me, on days I have to work, daylight coming an hour earlier in the morning is worthless to me. My evenings are spent outside, and it makes a big difference to me if I have daylight until 10:30/11:00 instead of 9:30/10:30.

I don't think the TZ change in Ontario happens until around Thunder Bay. I remember when Winnipeg had DST and Brandon didn't. Personally I would prefer having DST all year long. It is just STUPID to keep changing the clocks. Seems like Saskatchewan is so far ahead of most of Canada.

What IS true is that Saskatchewan is SMART enough to NOT change the time twice a year.

LOL,there's no such thing as "real time". I mean, the whole idea is a human concept/invention. Yes, the earth rotates at a given speed during it's orbit around the sun, but years, days and hours were chosen as the way we measure it. So, we could just as easily divide one complete rotation into 10 units or 100 units instead of 24 units of measure. We chose twenty four.  
 
With that, I hope they don't get rid of Daylight Saving Time. I like having the late sunsets during the summer too. I agree with those who said that if we are going to stay at one time year round, then let's stay with DST all year.

Our trailer is at Ricker's campground (Roblin end of Lake Of the Prairies), just a few minutes from the Sask. border.  
 
They are an hour behind us in the summer, and I cannot tell a difference in the sunset at our trailer, or going a few miles down the road.

prior to standardising time, every location based their time on the Sun. Once railways started traversing continents, it was a nightmare to schedule trains when every station had their own time.  
 
I have no issues with the time changes.

Are people getting cranky? Do we need more happy sunlight hours?  
 
Personally, I don’t really care one way or the other. It would be nice not to have to figure out the car clock every time tho....

Me too! I have had this car 8 years now. This last change I did it for the first time without the book!

Really choose the days and years to measure time....that was pretty much determined at creation, but the day could easily be divided into 10/100 units instead of 24. Would kinda make sense. And about changing clocks back and forth...OK I don’t understand technology but my question is why is the readily available technology for automatic real time (like on cell phones) not built into our vehicles? Or any other clock? MaybeI a more expensive vehicle has that?

I love daylight saving time. We have enough dark days in the winter. Those long summer evenings are wonderful for being outside. Plus the birds start chirping at 4:30 in the morning anyway. If we abolish daylight saving, the birds will be getting up at 3:30 lol.

I like long evenings in the summer but would hate it if we stayed on DST and sun didn't rise til almost 9 in the winter. I would propose we move ahead a half hour in the spring and then stay there!

Getting rid of daylight savings is long overdue. Way more cons to it then pros.

In the article is silly...productivity drops the day after one change but doesn't go back up after the next? It must go back up at some point-otherwise everyone would have been at zero productivity years ago. It can't keep dropping and never going back up.

I like DST. It aligns better with our sleep cycles. It's a waste of sunlight if sunrise is at 0430 when most are still asleep
