this stabbing happened at Brandon jail. This was a violent attack and premeditated as a knife was made by the man.  
 
Am I missing something? Why would this man be in a low-medium risk jail like BCI? This isn't made for violent long term prisoners.  
 
I know if I was this man and/or his family. I would be suing the prison system: government and anyone else I could think of for putting a violent offender in BCI.  
 
Luckily the man wasn't killed but the terror of that attack will stay with him forever.

If violent offenders don’t go to jail, where do you want them?  
 
BCC has different security levels, like any other jail. Violent incidents happen in jails all the time. I’m much less concerned when the victim is another inmate, than I am when it is an officer or support staff. You don’t go to jail for being a Boy Scout.  
 
I can see the headline now, “man on trial for murder stabbed by attempted muderer, family of victim plans to sue”

Of course they go to jail but there are jails build to deal with violent offenders.  
 
And if you feel a fellow inmate life is less important than anyone else than I think you need to think about this.  
 
It just happen to be fellow inmate: could have easily been a guard.

Well the Brandon Correctional Center is a jail/remand center that holds people who are waiting trial, awaiting sentencing, awaiting transport to a prison after they’ve been sentenced and inmates serving jail sentences of up to two years less a day, so that is why he is being housed at BCC. But I am surprised he’s not in Stony Mountain yet because he was sentenced a few weeks ago, but I’m sure there’s a good reason.  
 
Obviously he’s a very violent person and now hes facing another charge of Attempted Murder, so now he will be confined to a cell by himself and has no contact with anyone else.

I am sure the paperwork would not be done to send him to a Federal Penitentiary yet.  
 
Brandon does not house inmates that get 18 years. I think the max is two years.

Enlighten me as to the provincial jail that is “designed for violent offenders”.  
 
And yes, if you go to jail and your charges and institutional behaviour constitutes you being housed in the same area as a man recently convicted of shooting an RCMP officer, than I absolutely value your life less than I do a correctional officer or jail support staff.  
 
This guy will go to federal prison, but not until 14 days after he is sentenced to 2 years or more, or he signs a waiver waiving that 2 week period. This is to allow time for an appeal, or to get his affairs in order before going there.  
 
If you think this guy has the most serious charges of any inmate at BCC, you are delusional.

He was sentenced to 18 years on April 23rd... so that was only a week and a half ago. That’s why he’s still here in Brandon. They usually are transported after 2 weeks.

that boy is looking at serious time in the pen, he's looking to make a name for himself, building that reputation, he thinks the others at Stoney will leave him alone now. Let's hope differently.

I’m disappointed in my species when this type of topic comes up. I feel terribly for the Constable and his family. I also feel pain and sorrow for the troubled kid that had nothing in his life that would have prevented him turning to violence and crime.

grow up with nothing positive in their young life, most choose to be a good person and to not go around shooting cops.

He's old enough to have made a decision to either stay the straight path , get a job and earn money the right way , or lead a path of crime.  
This oh the poor guy led a tough life is getting sickening, we all have brains and the ability to choose right from wrong. He made a BAD choice and is where he should be , in jail....

Can you elaborate on your conclusion that this individual had no option than to turn to violence and crime?
