myhandleistrain said "As a broadcasting corporation funded by tax payers dollars, I have always found the CBC to be unfair in it's political reporting. When I was first allowed to vote in the 70's, they (in my opinion) were left leaning, and continue to be so to this day. I actually stopped watching and listening to them this past April. We may as well rename it the Ontario/Quebec Broadcasting Corporation. Again, in just my opinion, it should not be government funded. "
1.) Wrong.
There is no reasoning with such bias, so someone else. . . feel free.
2.) The benefit of such entities as the CBC can be seen in one single CBC program . . . Marketplace.
Sure, there are many investigations that can be followed up by any news organization. However, consider an investigation into the telecom industry. Now consider who owns pretty much every single major news outlet in the country.
In the past 2 years alone, the CBC has done many investigations on the practices of Canada's various telecommunications entities. If someone pulled the plug on the CBC, this would vanish overnight.
I don't particularly feel like adopting the American model. Where the only place to get a critique out on the mainstream is on John Ollivers show. I suspect that there is a reason why he swipes at At&t as often as he does.
This country needs the CBC. And we likely won't know it until it is gone.
