I see by this link that the seniors didn't get the increase that was promised before the election !

During a campaign event in Fredericton, Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau announced that a re-elected government led by him would provide a 10 per cent boost to Old Age Security (OAS) at age 75 and a 25 per cent increase to the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) for widows.  
According to the Liberal Party, the OAS increase would give Canadians aged 75 and older an extra $729 each year and lift 20,000 seniors out of poverty.  
The increase would take effect in July 2020 and would be indexed to keep up with inflation. The full value of the benefit would be received by every senior who makes less than $77,580 today.  
Widows or widowers would receive up to $2,080 in additional benefits every year with the increased survivor's benefit under the CPP and Quebec Pension Plan (QPP).

I believe parliament would need to be sitting for that to happen, as it needs to go through a budgetary process and be approved by parliamentary budgetary officer.

There hasn't been a full sitting of parliament since February or March, and no budget has been dropped for 2020 to date because of the current situation.  
 
It's not neglect on the part of the government, but restraints placed on the parliamentary process and other fiduciary priorities during the pandemic. There was no way to predict this turn of events back in 2019 when the pledge was made.

blaming Trudeau, no surprise. And Abbysmom, your right, during the 2019 Federal Election know one knew what would happen in the early part of 2020. So things have to change, dealing with COVID-19 became priority.

I don't have a link but I saw on CBC a month ago that the Liberals said that with the COVID-19 supplement that they introduced for seniors, they would not be able to fulfill their promise of the OAS increase.

The new gun bans was done via an Order in Council, which is similar is substance to an executive order in the US. It doesn't require the assent of parliament, but is limited to very narrow types of situations. The last time as far as I know that it was enacted as to deny a passport to Khadr back in 2005ish. Incidently, it was also used to create interment camps during the war. They are often matters of national urgency and/or security.  
 
A budget is a long, tedious process that has lots of moving parts both within and outside of the house, and requires debate before the house (and the buying of shoes). That traditionally happens in the spring. It's simply has not been possible to do it, and likely won't happen until the house resumes sitting.  
 
A budget cannot be made via an Order in Council. A specific gun ban can. They are very different processes and you can't compare the two.

Just as they were during the Harper days, threads that basically amount to partisan bickering don’t generally accomplish anything and as soon as I start seeing the derogatory references to political figures the finger moves in the direction of the “close” button. Respectfully ask that political debate be factual and avoid said derogatory references if it’s to be taking place on this platform. Thx

is our poverty level anything below 77 grand a year? That seems high for a poverty level. If I had 6 grand a month i would be laughing all the way to the bank.  
 
I really didn't like this announcement because i feel if OAS should be getting a raise it should be immediate not wait until you reach 75 years of age. Lots of people don't get that privilege unfortunately

How does anyone expect any government to find any funding for these things in the middle of a pandemic?

There are hundreds of people who without federal gov't help during this pandemic wouldn't be able to live. Taxpayer's cash needs to help taxpayers! Be humble if you didn't have to rely on any gov't assistance okay?  
Consider yourself very fortunate if covid didn't affect your finances!

See this type of posts on my Facebook feed often. Then being derogatory to anyone who doesn't agree with your political position or view.

I accept that covid 19 has brought and will continue to bring a lot of severe hardships to many people and that for the most part our family is lucky although my wife is unemployed after 30 years employed and ten in her last workplace. I also accept that the economy is set for a more severe and continuing downturn and that the government cannot afford to continue to provide financial help or economic stimulus.

You don't mention any of the screwups and or miss doings of a Conservative government. Liberals are always horrible people while Conservatives are the best.
