I was wondering, since this was right in our backyard, so to speak, if anyone has/had any connection to those affected by this?  
 
I had heard of something to this effect before, but had never read anything about it until today.

Yes I have heard about this.  
 
There was a book written about US testing bioweapons and one place they were testing stuff was at an army base in Alberta. in the book they claim that the USA would send jets over Cities Winnipeg being one and dropping chemicals.  
 
I can't 100% recall the book but I believe it was about Lyme Disease in ticks. Not that it can be 100% accurate as there are always conspiracies out there.  
 
looks like in the national post the list the name of the Army Base in Alberta after reading the entire article.

Anyone older than 70 that grew up in southern Manitoba, will remember seeing planes making about six to eight flights across southern Manitoba from about Deloraine north to just south of Brandon over a period of 2 days around 53, 54. Many people became sick for no apparent reason after that.

Thanks, Robbie2. That is interesting, so it wasn't just Winnipeg that had this happen within MB?  
 
It is interesting what rural folks take note of and remember. You tend to know whose vehicle is going past, when one is "new", & what is normal/abnormal in the skies...at least our family takes note.
