Quebec election
12/7/2008 at 9:58 PM
For those not interested in the current "situation" in Ottawa right now (or fed up with it), Quebec's election is tomorrow, who do you think/want to win the election?
I want, and I am pretty sure that Jean Charest and his Liberals are going to win. The ADQ are most certainly going to lose a bunch of seats, especially from going from 33% or so in 2007 to 12% or so now. I think many people who don't traditionally vote Liberal will vote Liberal because they don't want to see what's going on in Ottawa to happen there (although the idea of the federal coalition is loved in Quebec more than Manitoba). I think the PQ's will pick up a few seats but not many, giving the Liberals a majority. Not even 2 years ago, everyone in Quebec was furious with Charest, wanted change, and following the minority government of '07, that's exactly what happened. Charest is more popular now than he was in 2003, mainly because he was able to listen to the people and get work done, even if he only had a minority (and the PQ/ADQ really didn't want him to call an election). In the riding I live in every few summers, the 2007 election had 8000 votes for the ADQ candidate (distant second), but in a recent byelection just days before the announcement of an election, the ADQ only received 800 votes (there were around the same amount of voters). That's pretty crazy.
