It was at one time Italy who was the poster country of why we do not want proportional rep voting.
It is tough enough with our current first past the post system .It worked well until the fourth party stepped in !
Now its Israel. Whoo hoo two winners. Figure that out - maybe they switch by weeks ?? Plus the right(Netanyahu and company) is using the same lame "reason" why they should lead that our threesome did (liberals/NDP and Bloc. All in all one crackpot party is king maker here.
Yet to this day we have Canadians who feel that the coalition type of voting system is best. There are prepared to enshrine that in stone.
No matter how it has been spelled out all proportional systems put forward in Canada would bring
A) unelected/unvetted members to the house who only answer to the party whips.
B) Mps who are very single minded and focused on the me and my voters just like the Bloc
C) continuous "drama" where a election could happen any moment. No tough choices would ever be made.
D) A system of leadership on a election footing at all times- spend spend spend.
E) twice the frequency of elections( see Italy)
