Would YOU pay $10 for local news?

So I decided to vedge out and watch some TV. Truth is I don't normally pay attention to what is on, I normally just channel surf, however I couldn't help notice how many ads CTV has taken out against the CRTC suggesting they are not getting their fair share of the revenue from cable/satellite TV. As I am watching American Idol before "So you think you can dance" both being US broadcasts. But they are still appealing to you, to push the government to encourage YOU to spend more money on TV.
I got to thinking, and doing some googling, the real loser as I see it, is the customer, another take with corporate greed attached! I have learned that on the LOCAL stations, Cable Companies and Satellite companies are not allowed to collect AD revenue. This clearly suggests that CTV may not have the best business model, if they have to reach into YOUR pocket to get thier last dollar just to survive. Here in Brandon, I have read that the Winnipeg Cable Provider owner "Shaw" has offered to purchase our local television station, so clearly there must be a business model to run it.
So I am not quite sure where the political pressures are coming from, I only know that CTV carries a LOT of weight being they can broadcast a commercial about saving their bad business practice over and over again. Oh and let’s not forget the sympathetic button pushing during the 6 pm news!
I am thinking I can get my news from online resources such as visiting EBrandon, or possibly some other group will step up. I don’t need to pay any more money for channels I spend 70% of the time ignoring. Or better yet CRTC. Let me opt out of the channels I don’t want, and then bill me if I want CTV, I am sure that re-broadcasting of American content will be filled by either the internet, or by Fox, NBC, ABC, or CBS.
Just my Opinion!
