Erase the Canada-US border?

It may sound like a radical idea, but according to the author of a new book it has merit to it. Techically the border would still be there and each country would be soverign, but there would be no need for passports or work visas.
John Ibbitson (the author, a former Canadian now writing in Washington DC) states that "The worst that will happen is that we may have to adopt American spelling"
