Federal NDP re-brand. Good or bad idea?

Per the CBC article below, the NDP party is considering taking a page out of the Conservative playbook by renaming itself.
The NDP historically have been much more successful at the Provincial level in this part of the country. Do you feel a fresh start would potentially help, hinder or have no effect on their chances Of getting more Westman votes in the next Federal election? Are there other parts of the country where it could help them more or less?
And finally, if they do go for a new image would they be better off sticking with an experienced leader (Layton) or replacing him?
