The NDP made a point of mentioning in their press releases this week that cabinet ministers would take a 20% pay cut in the upcoming year. What they glossed over was that this isn't optional: it's mandated by the balanced budget legislation. Now, in their proposed amendments to that same legislation, they want to remove a 40% pay cut that would kick in the following year. CBC article below.

I was already livid that they want to give themselves a four-year break from the requirement to balance the budget, thus dumping a huge debt and a return to balanced budgets on their successors. Now they want to continue to line their own pockets while doing so. They're like rats on a sinking ship. I can already hear them in opposition five years from now, jumping on the Conservatives for making all the budget cuts as a result of inheriting their mess.
