0.5% Tax increase to purchase an NHL team?

This could easily go in the sports forum too, but I figured we'd get a better variety of opinions in MB & Canada News/Events.
I'm not sure where the initial idea came from, but I noticed today the Free Press ran a public opinion poll and did a whole story on the idea of raising the PST 0.5% for 2 years to fund the purchase of an NHL team.
They did a poll of what I assume is random people and 37 said they would support it, 21 said they wouldn't and around a half dozen were undecided.
I'm curious what people here think.
The idea is well-intentioned, but I don't really think the problem is getting the money to buy a team. If it was thought that a team could be *viable* from year-to-year, there are enough people with deep pockets in Winnipeg that would probably splurge and put together the $100+ million.
