Announcement for Crocus Fund Investors.
5/6/2007 at 5:48 PM
On Monday morning, may 7th. at 11:00 am, Bernie Bellan, Liberal candidate for the Assiniboia Riding will hold a news conference in front of the Legislature.
He is speaking about the NDP government’s betrayal of Crocus Fund shareholders. He will also invite the Media to ask NDP Cabinet Ministers some pointed questions.
You may want to ask your local NDP candidate the same questions:
1. In November 2000, the NDP cabinet was presented with a submission signed by then Finance Minister Greg Selinger that warned of up coming problems with the Crocus Fund. Specifically, the Cabinet was warned that the Fund was going to use money from new shareholders to pay old shareholders who were redeeming their matured shares. This is called a PYRAMID scheme. Why didn’t the NDP government move immediately to protect unsuspecting Manitobans who still thought the Crocus Fund was a solid investment?
2. Did any NDP cabinet ministers buy Crocus Fund shares following that meeting or did they realize that it would be ridiculous to do so? (Ask any NDP candidate whether he or she has shares in the Crocus Fund. If they do not, ask them why they didn’t buy them, since Mr. Doer was so solidly behind them.) If any NDP cabinet ministers purposely withheld buying Crocus Fund shares because they had received specific warnings about the Fund, is this not called “Insider Trading”?
To date the Crocus Fund has been put on the back burner of this election: Bernie Bellan is tomorrow to make it an issue loud and clear. He believes that Investors should not have to wait forever to get their money back: the government should be moving to compensate shareholders immediately. This will be a good time for Crocus Fund Share holders to put their case forward.
