Archaeological dig site near souris

We have been down to the Archaeological dig site near Souris a few times in the last month.there is a team of archaeologist working there from Calgary and other areas of Canada.showed us a few tricks of the trade ..they have been hired by Enbridge to check the area for indian artifacts and make sure there is no large sites destroyed when they are putting in the new pipeline across Canada.l put in a photo of a example of some of the items found near that area, the long point on the left side of the photo is a 7 inch spear point, found about 25 inches below ground and would be about 10 thousand years old.the smaller point with the hook in it in a tang point, would have been used for fighting and self defence,or trying to kill your buddy.it was found about 30 inches below ground level and is about 8 thousand years old.the smaller item is just a fossil of some type of shell fish, found north of souris under ground about 36 inches, they said it could be a million years old,but couldn't tell for sure.the site they are digging at was a lake shore a few thousand years ago,and would be a spot where natives would have camped and hunted for food, that is why there is a fairly large amount of artifacts being found there.if you have an artifact that you would like them to have a look at and age it for you, they said they would be glad to have a look at what you have .bad part is the cannot travel around and you would have to visit them at the site.directions are 1 mile north of souris on the highway to Alexander,,turn left,go 1 mile, turn right,go north about 3/4 of a mile and they are on the east side of the trail.they will be there until the ground freezes to hard to dig..not sure why some of the native groups don't get involved in this, would be a super way in showing some of the younger ones about their past .if your out that way for a drive, stop in and take a look, very interesting stuff !!!
