Economy: Which party is best positioned?
1/22/2008 at 10:34 AM
Because of how much the economy is starting to tank, we're starting to see a real shift in political priorities in the US. Whereas parties were campaigning on change, the environment and the war (all still important issues), the economy is showing signs of starting to take centre stage in presidential primaries.
That got me to thinking. Much of the warmup for what looks like a Canadian federal election in 2008 has been fought on environment and the war. It'd only be fair to assume that the economy is going to become more and more of an issue in peoples' minds as the problems in the US effect our economy more and more.
Question is, which party to date do you think is best positioned when it comes to the economy? We could see the Liberals (carefully) play up the financial successes of the Paul Martin era. The Conservatives should be able to find a way to spin the turbulent Canadian dollar times of 2007 and their GST cuts, laying as much blame as possible south of the border? What could the NDP and/or Green's angle be?
thoughts?
