I drive into Brandon daily down Grand Valley Road and noticed that recently there are the No Passing and Passing signs all the way from #1 Hwy to 18th St Brandon.  
 
What happened to reading the lines on the road? Isn't that what the solid yellow line means on the road? No passing? Can you say waste of money that MB is spending on road signs, I know they are not cheap...  
 

....frequently too and noticed that.....I agree, I'm sure the money could have been used elsewhere like the pot holes under the bridge......

All Highways have these now and I was thinking the same thing about the waste of tax payers dollars. Money to build the signs. Money to pay the crew, which I'm sure wasn't just two guys per truck to place them. Lines on the road have been sufficient for how many years? I'm curious what the reasoning is to place these new idiot proof signs?

I actually think it's a pretty good idea, however I'd have done it the way the signs are in South Dakota. Down there the signs are on the far side of the road in the opposite ditch, but they're facing the far lane, more in your line of sight when you're looking to pass.

The signs are up because we live in a winter climate in a province that had decided to stop doing overnight road clearing....

The signs are put up prior to seal coating and or paving to notify the public of passing and no passing zones until the lines are painted on again after the construction is finished.

Makes sense I guess. But are they going to be taking them down again once the seal coating is complete? I bet they will!

That plus line painting seems to be low on both the highway department and our cities priorities.  
 
Since it can not be done in the winter you think the savings would make sure the rest of the year it would be up to American standards.

I think the main reason for these signs is because most people are dumb when it comes to driving. Sure, if you drive the road frequently like I do You can see the lines and/or use common sense when passing someone. Unfortunately though most of the driving population either don't know or don't pay attention to the road lines and lack the common sense on when it is safe to pass. The same could be said for the signs at the Kemnay underpass. Just my opinion.
