1.4 million middle class and poor families received dollar for dollar amounts as the rich did with income splitting. P.S. The liberals do not consider the $150,000 dollar canadian, rich..  
 
Just for your info, Justin believes people in the $120,000 plus range should still get money for children. They proudly state this $120,000 to $160,00O class of people should get double the money than the conservatives pay.  
 
Tax free money.... The actual money is around $6000 a year for a poor $140,000 family that has 3 children. Talk about buying votes  
 
That is 3.5 times the money per child than the income splitting offered to every canadian.  
 
Saying a higher percentage of the rich use income splitting to gain $1600 is not the same as saying mostly it's only the rich Canadians that use income splitting.  
 
Just to correct your numbers to make them correct to liberal speak.

Coalition governments will become the norm because there will be no chance for a "split vote" allowing a candidate to "win" with a minority of votes.     The majority of democracies in the industrialized world utilize some form of Proportional Representation. Even Great Britain, where First Past the Post originated, is seeing parts of Ireland using a PR system and there are many groups pushing for the abandonment of FPTP altogether.     This, tafeel, is why we need change. Change is required to precipitate more change. It will allow change that will let us all vote for the party we favour without fear of wasting our vote. Pr does not guarantee democracy the o ly thing that would guarantee democracy would be if everyone was allowed to vote on legeslation wich with today's technology is possible. All pr guarantees is that you have unstable government beholden to the whim of whoever they have to align with to keep power. Look around the world where pr is used unstable government making bad decisions to keep power is the norm. Look to manitoba, alberta, Ontario if you believe these parties will change the system to something that .ay harm themselves down the road you are kidding yourself. If they believed pr was so great they would be implimenting it provincially so as to prove it could work federally.  
 
My belief if you truly dislike the first past the post people need to rise up and send independent mp the Ottawa to represent the riding they are from and not the party until then we are screwdriver with more of the same from the big three

I doubt we will have much change in our riding but let's hope others are no so bogged down in false promises of tax-breaks and buying votes with Child tax benefits.

Regardless of your preferred candidate, please vote tomorrow if you have not already done so.  
 
I would also like to express my appreciation for all of the candidates who had the courage to run for election. It is not easy to put yourself out there in such a highly charged, ultra-partisan environment. I appreciate your commitment to the democratic process and to working to keep Canada the best country in the world.

My point that even women's rights hadn't been taken away by "scary" Stephen Harper during a five year majority government was answered with a reply that not allowing the Niqab to be worn during the swearing in for citizenship was an example of women losing their rights.  
 
In many countries, women are not allowed to be in public unless their faces are covered. This is actually a matter of whether or not our laws, Canada's laws, are going to be trumped by the laws of some repressive culture/regime that denies women any rights. No one is telling women what to wear. No one is telling her that she can't wear her Niqab in public, if she chooses, just not for the citizenship swearing in. That's the way it should be. Every country has the right to make it's own laws and we must not allow our laws to be overridden by the laws of other cultures, religions and countries just for the sake of being politically correct. I believe that the Conservatives will be better at protecting our laws from politically correct foolishness.  
 
Instead of moaning about her not being allowed to wear it, you may want to celebrate the fact that in Canada, she has the right to choose to not wear it, without having to fear being punished.

what is so terrible about allowing parents an extra 6 months to stay at home with their child rather than putting them in an institutionalized daycare like the NDP have proposed.  

Parents can decide to stay home an extra 6 months if they want, but let them pay for it themselves. The present 1 year is more than generous and Canada is the envy of the U.S. and other countries for it.  

Is I will be dammed happy when this is over.

who think that they will be waking up to a NEW Canada, think again. When there is a minority government in place it is really hard for any leader to pass through the changes he wants as the minority seats challenge these changes and vote him down. So for those complaining that Steven Harper or the conservatives lied and didn't implement everything he/they promised, this is why. And it will be the same thing if a new government gains a minority. And frankly, I for one will be glad of that, if in fact there is a change. I cant grasp the fact that our potential leader might be a man who has started 4 degree programs and only completed 2, nor has any political background...other than his family name. I mean I would not want a lawyer to do surgery on me, just as I would not a drama teacher to run our country.....that's just me though.

I really don't know why people make such uninformed statements.  
Stick to the facts.

When I said background, I meant education. His degrees are in education and arts degree in literature. And just prior to his 8 years as an MP he was an actor in a Canadian miniseries. Those sir, are the facts.

You realize that you are advocating total anarchy in parliament, don't you? Can you imagine a government made up of 338 independent MPs, each with their own agenda? That is a lot worse than say 90 libs, 85 cons, 80 NDP, 70 Greens, 10 independents and 3 communists. At least this group could create a working government that would get things done. If the working arrangement has problems, a new coalition could be formed and allowed to govern without the need for a new election. Your dream of all independent MPs is a nightmare...  
 
Where PR is democratic is in how MPs are elected. There is no vote splitting. There is no need for strategic voting. There are no majority governments with the support of only 24% of registered voters. Obviously having the public vote electronically on all pieces of legislation creates huge issues. There are still communities in this country where internet and phone service is spotty at best and non-existent at worst. The logistics of having what amounts to a national referendum on every piece of legislation are probably next to insurmountable. That's why we elect MPs who are supposed to be our representatives in Parliament. I agree that in many cases they just toe the party line, which may not agree with the wishes of the riding's residents, but the remedy for that is called "the next election". Perhaps a means of recalling MPs and instilling the 2nd place candidate would be a better solution, but in the meantime, PR is our best bet to get our voices heard and not have our votes wasted.  
 
One more thing... if you haven't already, no matter who you support, please go vote today.

I think the Liberals might hit a wall when they hit the Ontario border though....people are very unhappy with the provincial Liberal party. Hard to say.

Predictions were no where near this routing for the Conservatives in Atlantic Canada.  
 
Peter McKay's riding went to a Liberal, the first time in years.  
 
Going to be a fun election evening watching the numbers come in.

From what I was seeing Quebec will go very red too....when we hit Ontario - that is where it is anyones guess.  
 
Funny thing is all the vote trackers and internet aid to see where you should vote based on your believes and circumstances - I should have voted Conservative.  
 
But when it came down to it the poor ethics they have displayed over ruled what I agree with in terms of policy.

Turn on CTV news present counts which are live have 179 liberal, 98 conservative, 21 NDP, wish they wouldn't call the election when it's just starting the counting for the centre of the country.

Perhaps they just moved here? As long as they show ID and proof that they reside in the electoral district that's all they need. I voted that way last election since my residency date was on election day.
