the election is now over until the next one DarMar! I would sure like to see you live under a real dictator.Pretty sure your definition would change drastically.

Maybe we should all be like our elected member from this area and say congrats to Mr Trudeau and say that over the next four years he will be working with the new government to try and look after the needs of this riding. It's politics and even if we don't agree with who's in power everyone still has to work together.

The gov. was elected by the canadian people. All fine and good, but how come with only 37.5% of the popular vote, almost the same as harper's last election. How come now the people have clearly spoken when 4 years ago it wasn't right that a party could get elected with such a low popular vote? History will show that harper did well in very tough economic times, now justin has his turn and time will tell.

@stonepicker: you are absolutely correct - a majority government SHOULD NOT be elected with only 37.5% of the popular vote. However, if it was good enough for Harper, then it has to be good enough for Trudeau.  
 
I AM hoping that Trudeau keeps his promise to reform Canada's electoral system, as I've mentioned here on several occasions.  
 
Having said all that, one other statistic is of note in this last election, and it is almost identical in the 2011 election as well, except that it resulted in a different government.  
 
That statistic is that approximately 2/3 of voters in Canada opted for a left-leaning government. In 2011, it was about 60% who voted NDP, Liberal or Green... all left-leaning or left of centre parties. This year, it was about 67% that voted for the same parties.  
 
I'd say that is a pretty interesting statistic. The last time the majority of Canadian voters did not go left was when Brian Mulroney came to power with 50.03% of the popular vote.

don't know. The Liberal party usually campaigns to the left but governs to the right.  
 
In my many years of voting in federal elections, I have only voted for LPC or PC/CPC.  
 
There are many Liberal supporters To assume all LPC supporters are left wing is wrong.  
 
Also, if PR was used this election, the only party that would have reeived fewer seats would have been the LPC. The CPC, NDP, BG, and GP would have increased seats and we would have a minority government right now.

world government is not a conspiracy. It was discussed openly at The Council of Foreign Relations. It's a scary proposition, and most people are in the dark.  
 
This isn't a liberal or conservative thing. It's a globalist agenda. Pay attention to the language coming out of the Paris Conference in December.  
 
SJK is not fear mongering. He is mentioning something that everyone should pay close attention to.  
 
Tony Abbott of Australia and Harper were two leaders who tried to resist the globalist agenda. Now they are both kicking stones down the road.  
 
And finally, to me, it looked like Harper didn't want to win this election. Why? I'm not sure.

It is prophesied in the bible that we will have one world government and that will not bode well for the world. But of course if you believe in the bible, it will happen.

First off I am ecstatic over the fact Harper is gone. I am looking forward to see how this all plays out and affects our provincial election April 2016. With Winnipeg's trend towards the Liberals I think (hope) we will see a change. Time for Mr Selinger to follow Harper's lead and hit the road.

Here is a very interesting piece by Andrew Coyne in the National Post offering a post mortem of the Conservative defeat. Coyne presents a well-reasoned analysis that I think even some hard core CPC supporters would agree with.

That was a very good article. Thanks for posting. Andrew Coyne is a very well respected journalist. Yes, he was with the CBC, whom Harper tried and succeeded to muzzle, but I believe some of these journalists (Mansbridge and Rosemary Barton included) can now speak their piece without the wrath of Harper shutting them up. That was not democracy on Harper's part, as even when the CBC was muzzled by Harper, journalists still took the high road with all points of view. That is professionalism first and risk of losing their credentials next.

Rosie Barton was muzzled? She is the biggest Liberal cheerleader this side of Craig Oliver. Her softball questioning of Liberals is nauseating.

read for many years, the literature produced by The Council o Foreign Relations. I don't know if CFR members pay any attention to the Bible or not, but they sure do describe their wishes for a world government.

15 years ago I read Tragedy and Hope. It was a massive undertaking. I think it should be required reading for every HS student in the nation.

I don't think you will see the change you might be thinking of. The only way MB votes provincially is NDP or PC. The Libs aren't an option and, for some reason, never have been here. Just look at Alberta. They just finished voting in an NDP provincial government yet stayed true blue federally.

has nothing to do with the fact that the CPC lost. I knew they would lose. This has to do what is/has been going on in our world.  
 
I'm displaying that the quest for a one world government is in fact a goal for many people. Will it happen? Who knows.

With the election having come and gone and there having been a number of days for post-mortem, I think it's time to bring this discussion to a close. Thank you to all who took part.
