How disgusting is this, as a race who relies on the planet Earth's resources how can we stand by and do this kind of destructive behaviour?

We live in a first world country for petes sake why can't we act like one? Today it may not harm us but think about your children and their children and the problems we are leaving for them to clean up. Such a responsible and mature civilization we have now ....

has now stepped in so it's delayed at least for now to find some sort of alternative solution.

It happens more often than we know. They only report it when they get caught.  
 
Winnipeg has done it and knew something was wrong and only when they got caught did it make the news.

Montreal dumping the sewage is probably not as bad as might seem since its primarily organic waste, and flows straight to the ocean, where the effects are negligible, if anything a net positive, as plankton would feed on it, increasing the health of the fish ecosystem.  
 
Winnipeg too has dumped 185 million liters of sewage since 2004, which is more concerning because the sewage goes to lake Winnipeg, acting as a natural fertilizer and contributes to the algae problems that are ruining the lake.

It is raw untreated sewage they will be dumping into the river, they have also given Environment Canada 3 days to respond to a meeting .. we will see what comes of it.
