The RCMP said they had there K-9 unit involved and I think there was also a couple other tracking dogs from search and rescue teams. But no scent could be picked up.

Reminds me of this case that got international attention 25 years ago and it's still without closure.

I didn't mean there was a different criteria for rural areas, I was meaning that the circumstances of an abduction in a rural setting is much different than in a town or city. Very little chance of there being a witness to see it happen, making it almost impossible to prove it was an abduction, therefore they couldn't issue an amber alert. I think it should be done case by case. Unless they have found some clues in the search that they just haven't released, I don't know why they wouldn't go with an alert, I don't see any harm in it.

Still, it doesn't meet the criteria of having information that would be helpful, like vehicle or suspect description.  
Without that type of crucial information, what good would an Amber Alert do? If the child was abducted, its not like the kidnapper would be parading the child around in public somewhere.

This is a kid, 2 years old. We have exhausted almost every resource in the past 4-5 days, but this one tool they have yet to use, the amber alert. Why not just throw it out there what harm could it so issuing an alert at this point. I don't see any. Even if it turn out they find the boy witch I hope they do at least they can say they did everything they could.

My friends in the military were even going to start their own search....every soul in brandon and area should be on this..i should be in my vehicle searching for this boy....high fbi intelligence should be on this....amber alert should be one this-! i recieved a call the other day that my son was missing from school.. that was the most traumatic thing ive ever went through, coming from the heart, good thing he was found...had just wondered off of the grounds....  
 
This mother and father...family must be devistated...traumatized...feeling helpless ....we must do ALL we can to find this missing local child ...its within our hands as canadian citizens now to protect our own-!

But AMBER Alerts have specific criteria for a reason. They are to go out when specific information about a known abduction and when the child is in immediate danger immediately. An AMBER Alert doesn't go out on ALL abductions either. They are not to be used in missing child cases. All of the AMBER Alert websites make that very clear.  
 
All crucial information has been shared with all media and law enforcement agencies. AMBER Alerts in this situation is not needed and serve ZERO purpose.

Just because they can't find the child doesn't mean they were abducted. If they're not abducted, there's not AMBER Alert.  
 
That girl in Kenora was missing for two months before they found her, turns out she was at the bottom of Lake of the Woods. No AMBER Alert would have found her.

I hope they find this child soon...

People will always have some kind of opinion. I'm sure these poor parents have seen and heard it all at this point. Idiotic comments are not what is important. This little guy needs to be found, and that is the focus. If they don't find him with the ground search, I'm sure they will turn to other searches and investigations. If this is a case where the child did not just wander away, then whoever has this little boy, or has harmed him in any way will be found. I'm sure if the parents were involved, clues would have been found in the home or yard already, as I'm assuming all buildings, etc. on their property have literally been turned upside down. If there was some kind of foul play involved, it will be found out. They are putting so much effort in to a ground search that is doing nothing for them, I'm sure they will be putting the same efforts in, in other areas as well.

The search has ended for Chase MARTENS. #rcmpmb can confirm that his body was found earlier today.

Heartbreaking......

So very sorry to hear he was found deceased. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family .

So sad. The family will at least have some closure, as tragic as it is. Condolences to Chase's family and friends. May the happy memories help you through this difficult time.

He was found in a creek 0.5 km from his home just after 1pm. The creek was in a 'high probability location' and had been searched many times due to changing conditions, water level and weather. No signs of foul play. Found by Winnipeg search and rescue volunteers.  
 
Autopsy will take place on Sunday.  
 
Glad he was found and his family has closure.

They released they found his body earlier today.  
 
Condolences to his family. RIP little chase

Hugs to his family and all those involved in any way with the search for this young boy. All will have such heavy hearts with the loss of little Chase. My prayers are with each of you tonight.

im sooo sad for Chase and his family, im glad they now have answers but my thoughts are with them as the whole community grieves

and children of this family. I hope knowing the love of all other parents and Manitobans can offer some sliver of comfort to you at this very sad time. Please find happiness in the memories of this beautiful little angel. My heart aches for his little siblings as they try to deal with the tragic loss of their little brother. This must be heartbreaking for them. I cannot imagine the emptiness for all that are involved. My deepest heartfelt sympathy to you all.

Found this letter on Facebook. For those of us that have been fortunate enough to have had near misses with children or for those of us that thought we would be perfect parents,,,,til we had kids...  
 
A little boy died this week in Manitoba... in what some believe to be a preventable way. And in saying that, yes, a different choice in the moment may have found the toddler sharing an easter egg hunt today with his siblings. Or maybe not. We can't presume to know what actions will follow any decision because life unfolds in each thought.  
There is a family now, caught up in a crashing sea of pain that few of us will ever experience...and we should be grateful for that. Grateful because our own parenting choices usually result in only a moment of self battering.  
Parenting is a delicate dance that no one really knows the steps to. All we truly want to do is to avoid stepping on little feet, but sometimes in our rushing and our exhaustion we find our heels firmly pinching on five baby toes.  
Judgement has absolutely no place when a dance that begins with delightful anticipation turns into a clumsy movement that results in great grief.  
Any parent at any moment can move left when they should have moved right. We love our children with all our soul, yet we are human. And the worst thing we can do is to respond to those parents in our human way of feeling that our parenting skills are somehow superior.  
Because they're not.  
We all have had those moments. Two minutes behind a closed door in sheer frustration only to be brought running by the crash as our child decided to try climbing on the dining chair for the first time.....a ten second doze while watching Sesame Street and being jolted back awake by the cat screeching as its tail is tangled in your toddlers teeth.  
If we are completely honest with ourselves..judgement lies rooted in the possibilty that our last "misstep" had the potential to arrive at the same place. And nothing terrifies us more.  
So please...feel that millisecond of terror...and understand that these parents are immersed in it now for the remainder of their days.  
We get a life jacket. They tumble on the waves of what ifs.  
Perspective.  
Lets remember compassion. Be kind. Or quiet.
