I see the Winnipeg Free Press is running a poll where you can nominate the greatest Manitoban:

After nominees are sent in, they'll put it to a vote on their site .  
 
For the time Tommy Douglas spent here and the fact that he was named Greatest Canadian, you'd have to think he'll have a good chance.  
 
A couple other Brandon names I noticed on a quick browse..  
 
Lorne Watson, Stanley Knowles.. and then Margaret Laurence from Neepawa.  
 
Interesting to see Homer Simpson on the list right now... I'm guessing that's one that won't get many serious votes
