Northern Manitoba Fire Evacuation

I know everyone is pretty caught up in what's happening with Hurricane Harvey in Texas as we should be but we also have an emergency happening right here in our own province. Waasagomach, Island Lake, and St. Theresa Point residents have all been evacuated to Winnipeg and Brandon with several plane loads arriving in our city yesterday. These poor people fled their homes with nothing... just wondering if anyone knows of places (besides the Red Cross) that are accepting donations for them or how to get in touch with someone to set something up. Thanks!

As per the article on CBC this morning: "Small says the Red Cross has ample supplies and resources to help evacuaees once they arrive in Brandon and Winnipeg, and do not need any items donated at this time."

had to leave with nothing but most of the people we seen yesterday at a local hotel had loads of bags.

yes, apparently nothing is needed at this point, but I'm sure as time goes on, if these folks are still out of their homes, there will be a call for assistance with certain items.

The Red Cross will always accept cash donations, and we should donate when we can because there is always a need somewhere. The last thing they want is some good samaritan dumping of several garbage bags full of old clothes that just becomes another job for someone to look after when they are already overworked.

The CBC article is misleading. My friend has been in contact with Red Cross about the 750+ evacuees that have come to Brandon. They DO NOT have ample supplies. They are very much in need of clothing, snack type foods, baby food, diapers of all sizes, formula, toys and books for kids, etc. Donations can be make to the Red Cross office and they will distribute to the hotels and evacuees. I'm sure we can show them what Brandon hospitality is!

I called the Salvation Army today and they said nothing was needed except cash donations.

the people directly affected before making comments like this.
Their are people in desperate need of strollers, clothing, toothpaste and tooth brushes.
I sat and spoke with many people personally yesterday and have donated as much as I can find.
Some had more time to get ready than those who were forced out in boats first.
