Where would one go to get one? Do you need a referral from a Dr?

You have a family physician you have to book an appointment. If you don't have a family doc, you can call western medical (sooner than later), there is one new doc there taking patients. You'll have to do the meet and greet with her first, then book an appointment for a physical with papp

a quick search and they will do a pap test.

If you don't have a regular doctor (who can perform one as noted above), maybe try calling the 7th Street Access Centre. If they don't do one (they have nurse practitioner that can likely do it), they will know for sure how to get one.

Thanks! I've never gotten one before so is there a female Dr that does weekends?

On princess avenue. She is awesome and isn't awkward at all. She's handled all my issues (including early pregnancies) and she is super kind and makes you feel comfortable in some pretty uncomfortable situations

I don't know if any doctors are working weekends except at the walk-in clinics (which would probably do a pap if you absolutely needed one). But even if it's a male doctor it's generally not a problem - most doctors I've seen in my lifetime have been men and they usually have a female nurse or staff member in the room while they're performing it.  
 
Paps are important and can save your life. It's worth taking an hour or two out of your week to see a doctor during regular hours to get it done. It's great now too that you only have to do it every few years instead of annually like you used to.

I had a male gynecologist in Brandon fail to even appear to consider offering me a female nurse in the room. I was shocked to be told I Had To Have a pap on my first visit to him, and i didnt make a stink about having a female nurse in the room, but I regret it.  
 
So, if it is a male doctor, you do have the right to ask for a female staff member in the room, or someone you trust.  
 
I think sometimes medical practitioners that have been doing this for a long time forget about consent, and trust, and that while it is extraordinarily routine to them, it may be uncomfortable, painful, or just feel like it leaves the recipient without a lot of dignity.  
 
And no, apparently it is not normal for it to be really painful, either. Uncomfortable, yes. Painful, no. Wish I had known that years ago, and spoke up for myself on that too.

You do not as for a nurse to be in the room.  
 
At one time, the doctor would ask you. Now it is automatic, they call a nurse, female receptionist, to the room without even asking.

I have never ever had a female nurse in the room with my male doctor when I had any of my pap tests.

I have never went to any other clinic except Brandon clinic and I’ve never had a female automatically put in the office. Maybe that’s just a certain doctor? There is a sign right in the rooms on the walls that says to request one if you wish...

Phone the nurse practitioner at 7th Street Access. She is amazing and will see you anytime. I go to her for mine plus I go to her when I'm uncomfortable going to a walk in. She can do basically everything a doctor can do.

Or you can phone the front desk direct and make an appointment with her. She also works on weekends. 7th Street Access is open 11am to 7pm Monday to Sunday.

Correction:  
The Access Center is open 7 days a week, but the NP does not work weekends.

If you phone the town centre, there is a women’s health clinic every Monday night 4:30-7:30pm where a pap test can be done.

Make sure you go back for results. Don’t assume they will contact you for follow up as women we have to be proactive and be in control of our own health. .
