I tried to go to the outdoor pools this afternoon around 4. They were both closed. Does anyone have any idea why? The girls at the splash park didn't know and no one is answering the phone number I found online. I would like to know if they will be open tomorrow. The 'storm' was over early and it is obviously really hot out.

But is it possible they sent staff home earlier and didn't think it was worth it to open again?

They closed the city splash parks early yesterday because it was too hot outside.... tell me how that makes any sense

Just because you are running through water doesn't mean you'll get dehydrated, heat stroke, etc. Yesterday was dangerously hot to be outside, so they likely took that into consideration and wanted everyone to stay inside rather than have an emergency situation.

It makes sense due to the fact of why would they have an employee sit out in extreme heat, when there is an advisory to stay indoors.

Well someone said they closed early so I guess someone came to their senses.

Common sense is like a lot of things, if you don't use it you lose it, sort of a sad state of affairs when we have to bubble wrap everyone.  
People who take jobs at water parks, splash parks and pools should understand the fact that sometimes in summer it gets hot, and parents who take or send their kids to these places also know it gets hot and should make choices accordingly.  
 
Think about this for a minute when it comes to working in the heat or cold, if we all decided that being too hot or cold meant not going to work there would be days that we would shut down many things. If hydro goes out when it's really hot do these guys get a break, and what about construction of many sorts, just imagine sorry couldn't lay ashphalt, to hot out.  
 
We've survived a pretty long time as a species because we can think, thinking means dealing with danger, not avoiding it.

It seems to me that we have become a society ruled by he weather channel. As soon as the possibility of a storm is broadcast, are we all supposed to go hide in the basement?  
Isn't the whole idea of pools, splash parks to cool down in the hot summer heat? As long as parents use common sense, lots of water, sunscreen, hats, the kids are much better off there than sweltering in a hot house. Believe it or not, not everyone has air conditioning.  
Same goes for the workers, use common sense and you will be fine.

All these years I thought you got dehydrated from sweating or losing body fluids by other means. So if you are sweating while outdoors I figured getting wet would cool your body enough that you stopped sweating, reducing your chance of dehydration. Also if you work at an outdoor recreation area I have to think you know enough to drink water or a sports drink to rehydrate. I think it was ridiculous to close the pools because it was "too hot". Pity the construction workers and road crews that worked those days, without the luxury of being able to cool off in the water.

My thoughts are with the low income families living in terrible rentals with no ac and small windows. Where do they go to cool down? There's been too many posts on the swap groups asking for fans

They should have scheduled the staff to work shorter shifts to avoid heat exhaustion allowing the pools and spray parks to remain open.

yup I find you are right. People don't want or like to tough nothing, they choose the easiest way instead try get stronger.
